DIAL GLOBAL VIRTUAL SUMMIT SEPTEMBER 2021
TAKING ACTION
22nd September 2021 | 11:45 - 7pm BST
23rd September 2021 | 11:45 - 7pm BST
When looking at diversity and inclusion in the workplace, actions speak louder than words. Last year was a landmark year for diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Companies around the world have begun to recognise and discuss diversity and inclusion as a key driver behind organisational success and employee engagement.
But, while we have undoubtedly made progress, there is still much more ground to cover. While diversity reporting is a positive step forward in providing greater transparency and encouraging companies to track their progress, we must be careful to look at the bigger picture. What happens after the report? What actions are being taken to improve the level of diversity within companies?
At this powerful summit, we’ll hear from global leaders about how they are prioritising actions over words across 10 visible and invisible facets of diversity. You’ll learn tangible strategies and steps that can be taken today to make real, measurable progress in creating equality in our workplaces.
Our last two summits reached 200,000+ worldwide STREAMS & over 2,000+ ATTENDEES from leading global organisations!

PANEL 1 12PM - 12:45PM BST | The Growing and Changing Role of CEO’s – Speaking up and speaking out as Activists
Global research has shown that 68% of employees want their bosses to speak out on social and political issues. But speaking up about issues not directly about your business can be an uncomfortable and risky place – exposing them to media, investor and public criticism. How are today’s CEO’s balancing the growing need to speak up and speak out with their roles? Find out in this powerful session with leading CEO's.

PANEL 2 1PM - 1:45PM BST | Employment after Prison: Ending discrimination faced by returning citizens
While the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (the Act) prevents discrimination against citizens with minor convictions who seek working opportunities, sadly this is not the reality for many job seekers today. Many people with criminal convictions struggle to shake off the stigma, access support and gain employment.
There are many heart-breaking stories of people with convictions facing discrimination and prejudice and being denied an opportunity for a second chance. With roughly 75% of employers in the UK admitting to discriminating against candidates who disclose a conviction at an earlier stage, what can be done to eliminate these unfair practices and ensure people are given fair access?
In this session we’ll look at the blatant discrimination, barriers and challenges these individuals encounter and hear how some bold organisations are breaking the trend and reaping the rewards of hiring returning citizens.

PANEL 3 2PM - 2:45PM BST | How Workplaces can focus on ability, not disability
Despite hearing about the advantages that people with disabilities can offer employers, too many companies still hold themselves back when it comes to hiring people with disabilities. They see hiring (some) persons with disabilities as being “the right thing to do” but do not see it as part of a talent strategy that will benefit the company and outweigh what they see as the potential complications, expenses and risk.
In today’s panel our leaders will share their experience creating inclusive workplaces for those with disabilities, discuss the benefits they’ve gained and give pragmatic advice for organisations who want to make a change.
PANEL 4 3PM - 3:45PM BST | Are you taking care of yourself?
With mental health problems affecting one in six British workers each year and mental health being the leading cause of sickness absence it is not surprising that employers are starting to look more closely at the crucial role they play in supporting the wellbeing of their staff. Money spent on improving mental health has shown a consistently positive return on Investment.
So how do you produce, implement and communicate a mental health at work plan that encourages and promotes good mental health of all staff and an open organisational culture? In today’s session, we’ll hear from inspirational leaders about how they’ve laid out plans that support their staff’s and their own mental health and well-being.

PANEL 5 4PM - 4:45PM BST | Celebrating Gender & Race Trailblazers
Join this session to hear from pioneering leaders about their career journeys and what it’s been like to be the ‘first’ in their careers and their advice to others.
The world often remembers and celebrates the ‘first person’ to do something and we’ve gathered some truly amazing trailblazers to share their stories with you. Whether they made history in politics, fashion, science, or entertainment, these people have helped changed the course of history for the better. But being the first in anything is a struggle with many seen and unseen obstacles that challenge the opportunity of success.
We’ll hear from our trailblazers about their personal stories and also hear the highs and lows of what it took for them to ‘make it’. We’ll also speak to them about their position as a role model for the next generation to follow. And learn about the impact they have had on the people in their lives and organisations.

PANEL 6 5PM - 5:45PM BST | McKenzie Delis Review what gets measured gets done
How do you get started on a diversity and inclusion strategy and agenda?
One of the best ways to recruit, engage and retain employees is to create a diverse, inclusive workplace culture. Most organisations are already on the diversity and inclusion bandwagon, but how do you build a successful program if you’re just getting started?
One thing is for sure- there is no one way. In this session, we’ll talk to our amazing MDR Chairs & co chairs to hear the individual stories of how they built and grew their diversity and inclusion programs. What steps did they take? What worked and what didn’t? And what were the best lessons they learnt along the way.

PANEL 7 6PM - 6:45PM BST | Moving the DIAL on Supplier Diversity
Supplier Diversity means creating a supplier base that reflects the diversity of our societies, customers and employees. Many large organisations like Unilever and P&G have started programs to review their suppliers for diversity – to ensure they are working with diverse suppliers and to partner with underrepresented groups in business. A diverse supply network will out-think, out- innovate, and out –perform a non-diverse supply network. Our diverse supplies are more agile, responsive, innovative, more likely to hire a diverse pool of employees and give back to their community.
Our panelists will review and discuss the trend for large organisations to demand diverse supply network. They will discuss the challenges and opportunities faced by companies to create a diverse supplier base.

PANEL 8 12PM - 12:45PM BST | New Leadership Behaviours - taking bold, brave and authentic action
Leadership is not about titles or the corner office. It’s about the willingness to step up, put your authentic self out there, and lean into brave action. In this session, we’ll hear from our summit partners on their journey to become authentic leaders. How speaking their minds, challenging the status quo, making brave choices and taking real action has led them to create a more diverse and inclusive workplace.
In this session we will cover: why all CEO’s need to be a beacon to drive the D, I and B agenda, and how they made the shift from viewing D&I as an HR imperative to seeing it as their responsibility and that of the entire C suite function.
We'll also hear their lessons on how to tackle uncomfortable subjects and difficult conversations without defaulting to defensive, some reflections on what they got right and what they got wrong, and what key areas they have identified and developed that are true game changers.

PANEL 9 1PM - 1:45PM BST | A Working Parent’s Survival Guide
We know so many of us are passionate about our careers—and passionate about being a great parent—but often it can really hard to create the right balance. There’s no playbook or clear benchmarks for success, and candid discussion with managers can feel taboo; you might worry about being labelled as unfocused, whiny, or worse.
In this panel, we’ll hear from working parents about their techniques to reduce the stress and successfully balance their professional and family roles. They’ll share stories about what’s worked and what hasn’t and how they are creating new routines, expectations and solutions.

PANEL 11 3PM - 3:45PM BST | CEO Activists - Collaboration not competition
We know there is no single formula for improving diversity and inclusion that is applicable to every company, industry or environment. However, we believe that openly sharing these actions in a spirit of collaboration will allow organizations to achieve their diversity and inclusion goals faster than any organization could achieve on its own.
Like any critical business imperative, advancing diversity and inclusion requires clear strategy, deliberate focus and sustained action. In this special panel, we will speak with three CEO’s who are coming together with DIAL Global to create a pledge to drive change across 10 Facets of diversity. Over the next three months they will work to create a new, pioneering initiative for CEO’s around the world. Hear what’s driving their passion for change and why they believe this CEO Activist Pledge can help transform workplaces.

PANEL 12 4PM - 4:45PM BST | Managing Different Ethnicities and Cultures in the Workplace
Cultural competence, in brief, is the ability to interact effectively with people from different cultures. This ability depends on awareness of one’s own cultural worldview, knowledge of other cultural practices and worldviews, tolerant attitudes towards cultural differences, and cross-cultural skills. The more different cultures, ethnicities and nationalities work together, the more cultural awareness, curiosity and sensitivity are essential for teams to thrive. All cultures have slightly different ways of operating, from ways of eating and drinking to ideas on meeting protocol and how to shake a colleague's hand. Knowing how to embrace this diversity is the key to a creating high performance teams that feel included and that they belong. In today’s session, we’ll be talking to leaders who manage global businesses with a range of diverse ethnicities, nationalities, and cultures.

PANEL 14 6PM - 6:45PM BST | How to create real and measurable change in the workplace?
In this finale panel, we'll hear from our summit partners – leading CEOs – on the importance of turning words into action and how the D and I focus has shifted beyond the “feel-good” rhetoric and positive optics of diversity. How have each of them ensured measurable change is happening in their own organisations?
We'll learn about their own organisation’s journey to create better equality, diversity and inclusion, the impact this has had not only on their teams, but on their business performance – both positive and negative. You’ll learn about their own public commitments to drive equality and diversity and the lessons they’ve learnt along the way about what works and what doesn’t. And finally, get to hear their unique stories that will help us see that there is no ‘one-way’ to make progress but understand how we can all reach our destinations in different ways.
